At Belmar, it’s the new-urban atmosphere that is drawing buyers

Artist Pat Pendleton painted alluring Southwestern canvases down in Taos, N.M….until three years ago when on a lark, she visited Belmar, the new-urban community in Lakewood. This was a place where she could paint, have her own gallery, shop and dine, and live very comfortably. “It had a sense of vitality,” she says now. “I told myself, ‘this could work.’”
ContinuumKentwood City Properties Kevin Garrett shows a 2-bedroom penthouse overlooking Belmar.

Today you can tour a spring open house with cupcakes and lemonade at Plaza Residences, the luxury flats where Pendleton bought…steps from Belmar’s outdoor cafes, restaurants, coffee places and 16-screen theater…and from Belmar’s ‘gallery row’ where she shows her work. Kevin Garrett and his team have sold four of these in the past two months.

Those remaining homes (all of them can deliver in time to qualify for the federal homebuyer tax credit) range from a 1-bedroom at only $225,000, to a 3-bed-plus-study penthouse where you’ll walk out on either of two decks for a view from Long’s Peak to downtown. You’ll see how short the walk is to Belmar’s Whole Foods…and have a chance to talk to residents and sense the atmosphere many say was key to their decision to buy.
“I got excited by it,” Pendleton recalls (she’s in her True Colors Studio & Gallery, noon-3 a block east on Saulsbury). “There was this interest in the arts.”
That new-urban ambience is pulling more vitality to the Belmar mix…Nordstrom Rack coming, the Paul Mitchell School and Ohio Video School both open in spaces above the shopping…Little India joining Wyestone’s Tea Room, Ted’s Montana, P.F. Chang, Elephant Bar, Baker Street, Press Coffee, Wasabi and others. You’ll see how that matches to the quality of Plaza Residences’ remaining homes…with big windows, high ceilings, granite tops, ¾-inch hardwood floors, and underground elevator served parking. Prices are all about 15% lower than when Plaza Residences first opened.
To reach Plaza Residences, take Wadsworth south from Sixth to Alameda, east two blocks to Teller, then right two blocks down Belmar’s Main Street.
